The rains subsided on May 27th for a great sale at Sherona Hill! Topping the sale was added lot 104, a stunning, fresh Atwood Sr. 2yr old from the great Apple-Red selling for $52,000.00. She was consigned by Mike Deaver & Jamie Judd & purchased by the Rodney Hetts. Second high seller for $41,000.00 was lot 5, a VG-88 Alchemy dtr again from 3E-96 Apple-Red! This lovely 4yr old was consigned by Apple Partners and purchased by Clark Woodmansee & Mike Deaver. She looks to be EX-92 & showing in the fall! Lot 1, a full sister to the sale topper sold for $33,000.00 to Miles Macray, Christian Cunningham & Madison Price! She will be a 2nd calf Sr. 2yr old to contend with for the fall shows!
In all, 9 head sold for five figure prices or higher. Cattle sold to 16 states, Canada and the Netherlands! As both Holsteins & Jerseys were offered the sale averages on full lots (excluding embryo’s & half lots) stood at $6,325.00 for 74 Holsteins & $3,616.00 for 16 Jersey’s. Volume buyer for the day was T&L Cattle Co. of Chilliwack, BC taking home over 20 head!
The sale was a combined effort of Mike Deaver of Sherona Hill and Kueffner Holsteins & Jerseys of MD with several outside consignments. Dave Rama served as the auctioneer, Norman Nabholz presented pedigrees with a ring staff that included Tom DeGroot, Mike Heath, Rodney Hetts, Kevin Jorgensen, Nick Raggi, Ron Roskopf, Chad Ryan, Tim Natzke, Graisson Schmidt & cowbuyer.com! The Oakfield Corners Spring Sensation Sale held on Saturday, May 20 in Oakfield, NY was one for the history books. 74 full lots were sold for a staggering average of $23,430.00 and a sale gross of $1,750,000.00. Some very unique embryo lots and fancy March calves also sold. Cattle sold were all from Oakfield Corners breeding, no consignments thus making this the highest herd sale we can remember! Bidding was fierce all day from an a very large crowd on a sunny day as well as the internet!
Lot 9 topped the sale with Progenesis of Canada securing the top bid of $200,000.00. Sired by Welcome Legendary, born 1-24-17, she carried a GTPI +2892 +83F +45P +$982NM +11.6PL +5.1DPR from a Delta dam and EX-90 2nd dam by Uno. Lots 12 & 14 each sold for $150,000.00 with lot 12 selling to West Coast Holsteins in BC. Sired by Bandares, born 2-11-17, she carried a GTPI +2883 +$931NM +1118M +71F +59P +8.4PL backed by a VG-DOM Supersire dam from an EX Labelle from the “Laurie Sheik” family! Lot 14 sold to De Novo Genetics, WI sired by Bandares, born 10-18-16 carrying a GTPI +2853 +$934NM +1426M +95F + 56P +2.52T. The dam of lot 14 by Delta, was the sale topper at the 2015 Spring Sensation Sale for $190,000.00 and is turning out some very high sons & dtrs.! 2 other lots (8A & 25) sold for $110,000.00 each. Lot 8A sold to Progenesis sired by Jedi with a GTPI +2815 +$878NM +1869M +80F +71P. This heifer is ready to IVF and backed by a VG-87 Kingboy dam from a VG-86 Uno back to “Colby Taya”! Lot 25 was a Jedi selling to Peak Genetics with GTPI +2874 +92F +77P +$240FE ready to IVF from a Tatum dam and Supersire Grdam.
While the genomic cattle might have carried the day on prices, the sale featured a sensational line up of show age yearlings, calves and bred heifers with world class pedigrees! Buyers of Oakfield Corners bred cattle have been handsomely rewarded in the show ring as well as producing the highest GTPI cattle available and this group will be no exception!
Jonathan and Alicia Lamb, the entire Lamb family and the complete staff of Oakfield Corners Dairy, left no stone unturned. Only the finest on the farm are selected for the sale, the quality was amazing from beginning to end with pedigrees as long as your arm. The fitting staff had the cattle looking show ready and the Lamb’s hosted an open house the evening before the sale and a pig roast immediately following.

The Pinnacle of Peak sale held on Friday, April 28th 2017 in Madison, WI was a rousing success with 59 full Holstein lots averaging $17,500.00, and 6 Jersey lots averaging $15,575.00. Total sale gross was $1,125,900.00
The Peak Genetics staff had every detail covered including a fabulous open house and dinner at 5:00PM for the more than 60 people in attendance. Peak sale staff included Scott Culbertson, Jon Schefers and Mike Menendez. In addition, Roger Turner presented updates and pedigree information, Dave Rama from The Cattle Exchange handled the gavel and Steve Berland, Jerry Jorgensen, Lloyd Simon and Kyle Demmer handled bids from the floor and the phones. Cowbuyer was extremely active securing multiple bids on the evening. Merry Rama handled clerking duties.
Topping the sale at $125,000.00 was lot 2 from Seagull Bay Dairy, the #1 GTPI Bourbon daughter in the breed +2860 from the same maternal line that has produced Jedi, Jett & Flagship! She sold to Peak Genetics. Terra Linda Holsteins of California was a major player and made some fabulous buys securing 14 lots on the evening. Second high for the evening, lot 1A, also sold to Peak Genetics for $70,000.00. This fabulous heifer sired by Modesty carried a GTPI +2863 and ranked in the top 100 for GTPI and NM$. She was consigned by Bovine Genomic Partners of MI. ST Genetics took home the #7 Bourbon daughter of the breed for $51,000.00 carrying a GTPI +2799 +104F +82P also consigned by Seagull Bay Dairy from Idaho.

A huge crowd was on hand for the 36th Cobleskill Dairy Fashion Sale held on Saturday, April 22 at the Schoharie County Fairgrounds. The SUNY Cobleskill Dairy Students had the cattle well fitted and in top condition for the sale. The 81 full Holstein lots averaged $2,591.00. Lot 30 topped the sale at $6,000.00 a lovely Red Avalanche born 9/28/16 from a VG Ladd P x 92 Mr. Burns & 9 more VG or EX dams. Consigned by Four-Hills Farm of VT, she sold to Mason Ziemba. Lot 13, a Charasmatic sister to the popular “Helix” consigned by AOT Genetics sold for $4,100.00 to Woodcrest Dairy. She carried a GTPI +2603 +109F +43P. Matthew Enright of Canada tied into lot 1 for $3,900.00, a fancy Dempsey born 9-3-16 from the famous 2E-95 Atwood Lylly at Rocklan Farm.
Topping the colored breed section of the sale was a lovely Ayrshire heifer born 9/1/15 consigned by Scott Haynes & purchased by Lori Benson for $3,200.00. She was sired by a Remington son & her dam was GP-83 & next 3 dams VG or EX. A Fancy Jersey Sr. calf, lot 98, sold for $2,800.00 consigned by Crother & Green and purchased by Reagan Gebo of Hartford, NY. Sired by Tequila Fizz her dam is VG-83% x EX-93 x EX-93 show winning family!
Total gross of the sale was $240,710.00. Twenty-Four head in the sale reached the $3,000.00 mark or higher with cattle selling to 10 states plus Ontario, Canada. Megan Hill served as Sale Chairperson and did a fantastic job along with all the students and faculty at SUNY Cobleskill. The sale was managed by The Cattle Exchange with Dave Rama performing auctioneer duties. Dan Brandt handled pedigrees and ring staff included Kevin Ziemba, Don Welk, Duane Conant, Jason Lloyd. Merry Rama handled clerking duties with assistance from Tammy Smith. Sexing Technologies Sale Production sale held on Tuesday, December 15th in South Charleston, Ohio saw 390 young, commercial, fresh cows and bred heifers sell for an average price of $2,100.00. The 28 young sires ready for service averaged right at $1,475.00 and many had GTPI’s over 2450! The very top fresh cows peaked at $2,650 to $2,700 00 and the high selling young sire sold for $1,750.00. Cattle sold to 7 different states with Ohio buyers home the largest number of fresh cows.
The sale was co-managed by The Cattle Exchange, Delhi, NY and Courtney Sales Iowa. Dave Rama handled the gavel while Dan Brandt presented updates. Ringmen included, Scott Courtney, Don Welk, Ron Roskopf, Bruce Gingrich, Tim Reaun, Brian Garrison and Bob Osborn. Sale clerks were Merry Rama, Amber Newman and Amy Courtney. The Holstein Holiday Sale held on Friday, December 11th in Oxford, PA was a rousing success with the anchor herd of Lovdal Farms, the Knutsen family from Maryland commanding a large crowd with very active bidding. Topping the herd sale was lot 18, a VG-86 Aftershock for $3,375.00 selling to Keith Masemore, Barto, PA. Her dam is EX-91 w/1491F & grdam 3E-95 Ambrosia from the Ashlyn family. Lot 35, a VG-85 Lexor from the Licorice family sold for $3,050.00 to Matthew Puskas, Somerset, NJ. The Knutsen family have been a pleasure to work with for years and a tremendous asset to the dairy industry!
The higher seller of the day was lot 63 from Umble’s selling for $8,300.00 to Brandt-View Farms. This Halogen daughter carries a GTPI +2575 +$724NM and was ready to flush from a VG-86 Uno dam from the famous Cora family. The sale averaged $2,356.00 on 114 full lots with cattle selling to 5 states. The sale was co-managed by The Cattle Exchange and Stonehurst Farm. Dave Rama handled the gavel, the legendary Horace Backus presented pedigree updates, Don Welk, Nick Raggi, Dan Brandt, Harold Welk, Ken Umble worked the ring and handled phone bids along with cowbuyer.com. Bud Debnam was also on the sale staff but never saw much action with his arm in a sling! Get well BUD!
