Sexing Technologies Sale Production sale held on Tuesday, December 15th in South Charleston, Ohio saw 390 young, commercial, fresh cows and bred heifers sell for an average price of $2,100.00. The 28 young sires ready for service averaged right at $1,475.00 and many had GTPI’s over 2450! The very top fresh cows peaked at $2,650 to $2,700 00 and the high selling young sire sold for $1,750.00. Cattle sold to 7 different states with Ohio buyers home the largest number of fresh cows.

The sale was co-managed by The Cattle Exchange, Delhi, NY and Courtney Sales Iowa. Dave Rama handled the gavel while Dan Brandt presented updates. Ringmen included, Scott Courtney, Don Welk, Ron Roskopf, Bruce Gingrich, Tim Reaun, Brian Garrison and Bob Osborn. Sale clerks were Merry Rama, Amber Newman and Amy Courtney. Buyers were presented with a Sexing Technologies packet containing discounts on semen and genetics! Another sale at the same facility is slated for March 2016 with another 400 fresh cows & another 30 outstanding young sires! Watch for future ads!

The Holstein Holiday Sale held on Friday, December 11th in Oxford, PA was a rousing success with the anchor herd of Lovdal Farms, the Knutsen family from Maryland commanding a large crowd with very active bidding. Topping the herd sale was lot 18, a VG-86 Aftershock for $3,375.00 selling to Keith Masemore, Barto, PA. Her dam is EX-91 w/1491F & grdam 3E-95 Ambrosia from the Ashlyn family. Lot 35, a VG-85 Lexor from the Licorice family sold for $3,050.00 to Matthew Puskas, Somerset, NJ. The Knutsen family have been a pleasure to work with for years and a tremendous asset to the dairy industry!

The higher seller of the day was lot 63 from Umble’s selling for $8,300.00 to Brandt-View Farms. This Halogen daughter carries a GTPI +2575 +$724NM and was ready to flush from a VG-86 Uno dam from the famous Cora family. The sale averaged $2,356.00 on 114 full lots with cattle selling to 5 states. The sale was co-managed by The Cattle Exchange and Stonehurst Farm. Dave Rama handled the gavel, the legendary Horace Backus presented pedigree updates, Don Welk, Nick Raggi, Dan Brandt, Harold Welk, Ken Umble worked the ring and handled phone bids along with cowbuyer.com. Bud Debnam was also on the sale staff but never saw much action with his arm in a sling! Get well BUD!

The GenoSource & Sexing Technologies Production Sale held on Thursday, May 21st in Quincy, IL was a rousing success with 420 lots sold for an average of $2,898.00 straight through. Ninety Registered Holsteins averaged $4,110.00 while the 316 grade cows averaged $2,552.00 for a total of $1,202,575.00.

Topping the sale at $19,000.00 was lot 1, a tremendous fresh McCutchen daughter with a GTPI +2539 from the famous “Seagull-Bay Miss America”. Randy & Rod Weber of Canada were the final bidders. Second high was, lot 56 selling for $13,500.00 to Aurora Ridge Dairy in Aurora, NY. Announced as the sleeper of the sale, this fresh Supersire daughter carried a GTPI +2423 +%%P & her dam is VG-86 Snowman from EX-95 All-AM & All-Can, “Gold Missy”! Third high was lot 3 selling for $10,800.00 sired by Numero Uno with a GTPI +2430. She sold fresh from a VG-87 Robust and the family of Delta, Denver, Draco, Dozer & Delco to Siemers Holsteins in WI. Cattle sold to 13 states and Canada.

The quality of the cattle was amazing with many of the milking, sire ID grade cows selling for $2,800.00 to $3,400.00. Every lot was offered individually with the sale lasting less than six hours for an average of over 70 lots per hour! Free lunch was provided to all and the crew at GenoSource including Tim Rauen, Mark Butz and Joe Ferretti are to be commended for hosting a sale where there was quality at every level.

The sale was managed by Courtney Sales LLC of IA and The Cattle Exchange of Delhi, NY with both Dave Rama and Scott Courtney handling the gavel. Larry Kleiner and Lloyd Simon announced updates from the box with Cowbuyer.com handling online bidding. Sale staff members did a fantastic job handling bids and bringing orders to the sale including; Max Beer, Alan Dykshorn, Gerrit Bruins, Ron Roskopf, Dave Crack, Bill Rauen, Kyle Demmer & Tim Rauen. Sale clerks were busy all day and included Merry Rama, Amber Newman and Amy Courtney.

The buyers are already calling wanting to know when the next sale will be held in Quincy!

The Oakfield Corners Spring Sensation Sale held on Saturday, May 9th in Oakfield, NY will go down in history as one of the great herd sales of All-Time averaging a staggering $14,509.00 on 74 full lots with every animal in the sale bred by Oakfield Corners! Cattle sold to 20 different states and Canada and when the dust settled the sale gross stood at $1,117,400.00.

For the first time in breed history, 2 heifers were brought into the ring carrying GTPI’s over +2700, lots 11 and an addition to the sale lot 94. Lot 11 sired by Mr. Mogul Delta 1427-ET was born 1/26/15 and carried a GTPI +2765. Her dam is a fresh McCutchen from the famous “ Gold Missy” family! Lot 94, born 2/7/15 just received her genomic numbers last week and stood at +2708GTPI and +73P. Her dam is a VG-87 Mogul from the Markwell Raven family. Buyers got their choice of the heifers and the bidding was fierce. Topping the sale was lot 11 selling for $190,000.00 to Progenesis LP of Canada. Contending bidders included Dan Lufkin, Tim Rauen who was on the phone with Sexing Technologies and Scott Culbertson handling a bid close to the final number. Immediately after lot 11 left the ring, we opened the bidding on lot 94 with a starting bid of $150,000.00 that quickly escalated to $175,000.00. Dan Lufkin was the final bidder with Scott Culbertson handling the contending bid from Rock Hill Dairy of NM.

The Third high of the sale was lot 19 selling for $70,000.00 to Pine Tree Dairy of Ohio. This tremendous Supersire daughter sold with a GTPI +2624 and a proven flush history backed by a VG-88 Robust dam from the incredible “Rudy Missy” family! The Steiner’s know well how many millions this family has returned to the AI industry. Selling for $56,000.00 was lot 30, a stunning Kingboy daughter with GTPI +2650 born 10-19-14. This heifer sold to Rock Hill Dairy in NM. Great pedigrees and tremendous type ruled the day with virtually every lot selling above $3,000.00.

Jonathan and Alicia Lamb along with Kelly Lee and the entire fitting staff had the cattle looking fantastic and show ready sale morning. People attending the sale were treated to an open house the evening before the sale, a tour of the new show barn and a pig roast immediately after the sale. Everything was 1st class!

The sale was managed by The Cattle Exchange of Delhi, NY with Dave Rama handling the gavel. Horace Backus presented pedigrees along with a tremendous ring staff that included; Don Welk, Nick Raggi, Rick Verbeek, Scott Culbertson; Patsy Gifford; Ray LeBlanc; Gary Vanderpost and Jamie Black.

Congratulations to the Lamb family and their entire crew for such a tremendous offering of 100% homebred cattle. Everyone who attended felt the market remains strong for the very best of every breeding philosophy and good about the Registered Holstein industry!
