The Holstein Holiday Sale, co-managed by Stonehurst Farm and The Cattle Exchange on Friday, December 6th in Lancaster, PA, drew a large crowd of spirited bidders.  The sale averaged $2,036.00 on 124 full lots (All cattle over 3 months of age).  The sale featured the Shadowave herd from Canada and additional consignments.

Topping the sale at $4,000.00 from the Shadowave herd was lot 2, sired by Dundee and recently classified VG-88, she sold fresh and backed by 5 generations of VG and EX dams.  The final bidder was Glen Brubaker of Womelsdorf, PA.  Second high for the day at $3,600.00 was lot 78, consigned by Kyler Heiney of Strasburg, PA and purchased by Russ George, Arcade, NY.  She was a tall, fancy, Fever daughter from a VG-88 Roy, then 3 EX dams!  Danny Fantom of East Berlin purchased the third high seller of the day, lot 106, for $3,500.00.  She was a fancy Atwood scored GP-82 and going on high VG and backed by 14 EX dams!  She was the consignment of Reed Comstock, Ulster, PA.

The sale was Co-Managed by Stonehurst Farm and The Cattle Exchange with Dave Rama handling auctioneer duties and Daniel Brandt presenting pedigrees.  The ring staff consisting of Don Welk, Russ George, Dave Bitler, Mike Weimer and David Kulp did a tremendous job handling bids from the crowd as well as the phones.  Merry Rama, Joyce Welk and Amber Newman as always, handled all clerking duties to perfection.

The market was very steady with many young cows bringing $2,200.00 to $2,400.00.  It would appear that the market has moved higher for springers and fresh cows!  The good pedigreed open heifers were still in demand as well.  Cattle sold to 7 different states in all.

The Ridgedale Farm Sale on Saturday, November 2, 2013 in Sharon Springs, NY realized a final average of $2,050 on 113 full live lots.  The sale consisted of Thirty eight cows, fifteen bred heifers and sixty calves and yearlings.  A large crowd was in attendance with spirited bidding all day long. The sale also included 86 embryos lots and over 320 embryos in all resulting in an average of $220. per embryo.

Wayne Conard opened the sale introducing his family, wife Jen, who had the sale ring beautifully decorated and sons Cyrus and Issac.  Wayne finished with remarks on the Roxy family and how they made their first purchases years ago from Peter Heffering enabling them to establish such a fine cow family that now resides at Ridgedale. 

Topping the sale at $5,000.00 was lot 59, the VG-88 Goldwyn from Chief Adeen. She was owned by Ridgedale with Brad & Cindy Murphy of Parish, NY and the Murphy’s were the final bidders.  Contender was McCloe Pond Farm from PA.  Second high of the day was lot 35 a September 2013 Atwood Brady daughter from third generation EX-95 “Estel”, selling for $4,750.00 to Josetta McNett of Belmont, WI.  Third high seller was lot 79, the newly crowned EX-90 Shottle, Sam-Sim Shottle Lady London, backed by three generations of excellent dams.  She sold to McCloe Pond Farm of Laceyville, PA. 

Fifteen head sold in excess of $3,000.00 and cattle or embryos sold to fourteen states plus Canada. 

The sale was managed by The Cattle Exchange with Dave Rama handling the auctioneer duties while Horace Backus presented pedigrees.  The sale staff included Don Welk, Ray LeBlanc, Nick Raggi, Patsy Gifford and Larry Hill.  Phone bids were active all day particularly on the embryo lots.  Merry Rama and Amber Newman handled all clerking and trucking details and Shayne Wilson and the fitting staff had the cattle well fitted and ready for the sale.

Many great success stories from past Ridgedale sales and we expect many more from this recent sale on November 2.  Congrats to the Conard family and all buyers.

The NY Holstein Harvest Sale held on Saturday, October 26th at Cornell University, in Ithaca, NY was a rousing success and ended with a final average of $4,108 on 95 full lots and a gross sale of $403,205.00.  The Cornell University Dairy Science Club had the cattle fitted to perfection and a beautiful display on hand for all in attendance.  The sale was managed by The Cattle Exchange and sponsored by the NY Holstein Association.

Topping the sale was lot 1, a June 17, 2013 Massey daughter consigned by Cookie Cutter Holsteins selling for $60,000.00 to Tom Kugler of NY.  She carried a GTPI +2428 & loads of AI contracts.  She has since been resold to De Su Holsteins in Iowa!  Seagull Bay purchased lot 3 from Ladys-Manor for $16,000.00, a Headliner daughter w/GTPI +2402 & a maternal sister to Supersire Cashay heading to Select Sires!  Third high was lot 2 selling for $14,000.00 to Joe Mackachinis, Hop Bottom, PA.  This lovely Mogul daughter consigned by Woodcrest Dairy carried a GTPI +2452 & backed by a VG-86 2yr old Osmond dam!  Aurora Ridge was a major player taking home lot 73, a polled carrier sired by Earnhardt P w/GTPI +2230 that ranks in the top 40 polled carriers of the breed & selling with multiple AI contracts!  Cattle sold to 11 states and the great pedigrees were in demand!

This annual Holstein Sale has consistently ranked as one of the highest state sponsored sales in the Holstein industry.  Again, the Cornell faculty and students did a remarkable job preparing the cattle.  The sale staff performed brilliantly once again for The Cattle Exchange and included, Horace Backus, Rick Verbeek, Don Welk, Tom Harkenrider, Ray LeBlanc, Kevin Ziemba and Patricia Gifford with all clerking duties handled by Merry Rama and Amber Newman.

The NY ET Convention Sale held on Thursday, January 17th in Batavia, NY saw 33 full lots sell for an average of $6,850.00 and a total gross sale of $254,650.00 with embryo packages included.   The sale is always one of the highlights of the annual NY Convention with great participation from bidders in the crowd as well as phone bids handled by Rick Verbeek, Tom Harkenrider, Dan Brandt and Patricia Gifford.  Dave Rama handled the gavel and Horace Backus presented pedigrees and updated information.

Topping the sale @ $15,500.00 was lot 5, an October ’12 Mogul daughter with a GTPI +2314 +$759NM.  Her dam, EX-91 Bolton Money!  She sold to Ideal Dairy of Hudson Falls.  Selling for $12,000.00 were two lots; Lot 4 a choice by MAS from a Facebook daughter w/GTPI +2295 and full brother the #2 GTPI sire of the breed.  This choice sold to Ron and Jeff Sleeth and Chris Clarke of Canada.  The other $12,000.00 lot was lot 10, selling to Jonathan and Alicia Lamb, a Moonboy w/GTPI +2346.  Consigned by Select Sires the dam is a fresh Hero that looks special.  Other lots selling for $10,000 or more included Lot 1 for $11,000.00 to Clear Echo Farm; Lot 2 sold to Andy Carter for $10,200.00

In addition to the choices and calves that were offered, a number of embryo packages sold as high as $950.00 per embryo.  Buyers from four countries and seven states participated!  The sale was managed by The Cattle Exchange and Sponsored by NY Holstein Association.  Congratulations to all buyers and to consignors as well!
